"One thin[g] that people seem to forget about the Big XII is that their agreement with the SEC over their new bowl game is that both conferences must have a championship game."

I've looked over the internet for information regarding this requirement you mentioned. I have not found anything. Can you send me a link where this requirement is illustrated?

The best option would be for BYU to form a new league with Boise State, San Diego State, Air Force and the remaining four best Western teams available. Then let the Big East get whittled down to eight football schools. At the end of the year have the Big East Champion and Western champion play for a champion of the two leagues. Let BYU play a seven game schedule with the Western league and then schedule quality teams for the remaining five games. Don't have the "Big West" and "Big East" play each other until the championship game. And BYU needs to keep the ESPN contract.

The most obvious and likely target for the ACC is Connecticut, not Louisville. UConn has better academics and history with present or future ACC members.

The Big Ten is acting like a spoiled child by trying to raid the ACC. The truth behind the rhetoric is that if they couldn't have Notre Dame, they're going to hurt whoever did. While I've always called Rutgers as a possible Big Ten target for a little while now, Maryland is a bad choice. I live in Northern Virginia, and since we are both residents of the DMV, you and I both know that Maryland holds almost zero market share in football season around here. There basketball program has been unable to rise above mediocre since the 80's. Georgetown would be a better pickup market wise than Maryland. Maryland was the safe, and honestly cowardly, choice for the Big Ten because they knew that it was probably the only school they could entice and they didn't want the public humiliation of being turned down publicly.

As for BYU, I've always wished that they had joined the Big XII, and would have loved to see BYU/Texas, BYU/Oklahoma, BYU/TCU match ups. However, as more time goes by and the Big XII increasingly looks East, I think the window has passed by. I hope I'm wrong and if the Big XII goes to 14 I hope its FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and BYU but we'll see. One thin that people seem to forget about the Big XII is that their agreement with the SEC over their new bowl game is that both conferences must have a championship game.

Comment on Utah’s Season Comes Down to Rivalry Game (Again) by DowntoBusiness

Great Perspective on the Rivalry Game. The "(Again)" in the title of the article says it all. After last season where the mighty Utes had a losing record in the Pac 12 and lost a sure bid to go to the Pac 12 championship game by losing to lowly Colorado, who had not won an away game in 4 years, the only bright spot of the season for the mighty Utes was beating BYU who had no quarterback at the helm and a rookie O-Coordinator.

Jake Heaps was still on his honeymoon or somewhere in space after a shot-gun wedding in June.

The Utes should be careful about ending a rivalry game that has the potential to save their season every year even when the Utes pull a "no show" for most of the rest of their games. Most Ute fans with their new found Pac-12 Arrogance, act like last season was a success.

No one who matters, sees the Ute's season last year that way. It was one of the most disappointing collaspses of a football program in history given the stakes for a potential Rose Bowl birth and only needing to beat, at home, a lousy Colorado team (who can't win on the road) to go to the Pac-12 Championship game.

That opportunity will not show itself again for about 20 years. So, the Utes better hope that BYU is not as eager to turn their backs on the Utes. Because once BYU goes away, the Utes won't even be relevant in state, let a lone their new found irrelevance in the Pac-12.

I would give up anything in the world for BYU/Utah to continue to be played. Nothing could possibly be better, even if we won another National Championship, it'd feel hollow without a win over Utah in that run. Without Utah, we don't have a rival, we don't have a team to talk about each year, nothing to build excitement for the 364 days before the next one occurs.

Sure, we'll be fine without them, but nothing can replace the rivalry. Boise St is a friend to most of us, not a rival, and many are looking forward to that series more out of just playing, rather than actually obliterating them. I never want to see Utah win matches, but I love to see Boise St win, and always will, unless they're playing BYU. ND is another school I respect.

Say what you like, but this really is more saddening that it is being made out to sound. Nothing replaces this rivalry, not even an undefeated season, what is an undefeated season if we can't even shove it down Utah's throat that we smacked them en route to it?

You said that this is nothing new which is right because the "win and you're in" has always been there and that's the problem. Utah has done it twice (2004 & 2008) but since the inception of the BCS we haven't done it nor have we even gone 11-1. Actually we won't go undefeated any time soon either so given the national coverage that's even worse. A recent article in the Daily Herald points out that Coach Mendenhall almost quit after the 2008 (strive for perfection) season which goes to show you that it's his goal too to do better than 10-2 (not counting a bowl game) and yet we haven't. Finally, the team up North has actually done better than us since 2004 and has and will continue to out recruit us because of their PAC12 affiliation.
